Placements available
The academic year at University of Auckland goes from January to November each year.
Applications are processed in two rounds: Semester 1 which runs from January to June and Semester 2 which runs from June to November.
Placements cannot start before the second Monday in January, and there are no placements in December due to summer holiday absences and Christmas/New Year closures.

Quarter 1: 11 Jan to 5 Mar
Quarter 2: 8 Mar to 28 May
Quarter 3: 31 May to 20 Aug
Quarter 4: 23 Aug to 3 Dec
Duration
4 to 6 weeks duration for Elective Placements
Application deadline
Applications open per semester. Applications for 2026 have closed and we are not able to accept late applications. The 2027 applications will occur at similar times to the 2026 dates (see below).
Semester 1 – January to May 2026: applications open from 28 July - 17 August 2025
Semester 2 – June to November: applications open from 26 January to 15 February 2026
Placements are allocated via a ballot system.
