Teaching Excellence Award Recipients' Workshop

Emma Beckman (UQ) and Donna Drynan (UBC), recipients of the 2016 Teaching Excellence Award, will present a workshop on Wednesday 20 September on the topic "Turning Moral Distress into Moral Resilience". The workshop will explore the concept of moral distress and moral resilience and focus on key strategies for developing medical and allied health practitioners that can respond with awareness to times of moral distress throughout their careers.

Looking for presenters for inter-disciplinary workshop

One of the inter-disciplinary workshops will focus on curricular experiences in caring for disadvantaged populations, in particular those with mental health conditions. We are looking for two or three volunteers to present on such curricular experiences in their institutions. Please contact Caroline if you are interested.


Dates announced for 2018 Global Learning Partnership

After a very successful pilot in 2016, the U21 HS Global Learning Partnership will return in 2018. The dates of the program have been announced and it will take place from 11 March to 6 April 2018. The 4-week program is a partnership between the Kathmandu University School of Medical Sciences (KUSMS) and the U21 Health Sciences Group. Applications for U21 HS students will open shortly. Information will be posted on the website and sent via email to U21 HS members. We are pleased to welcome Mrs Carolyn Cracknell as U21 GLP Project Officer for the next 6 months. Carolyn is based at the University of Melbourne and will be the dedicated point of contact for students applying to the 2018 GLP.


Summer School 2018 & 2019

We are thrilled to announce that Lund University will host the U21 Health Sciences Summer School in July 2018. The 2-week event will focus on Climate Change and Global Health and will be designed through a collaboration between Lund University's Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Engineering and the Swedish University of Agricultural Science. An overview of the program will be presented at the U21 HSG Annual Meeting in Johannesburg and applications will open before the end of 2017.

Seeking new medicine representative for U21 HS Executive Committee

The U21 Health Sciences Group's Executive Committee is currently seeking expressions of interest for the role of U21 Medicine Group lead for the period September 2017-September 2020. This role is two-fold: 1) Guide the U21 Medicine Group's focus and activities 2) Represent the Medicine 'voice' in the U21 HS Executive Committee. Please contact Caroline for more details.


University of Birmingham to host U21 HS Secretariat

The U21 Health Sciences Executive Committee is pleased to announce that the College of Medical and Dental Sciences at the University of Birmingham has agreed to host the U21 HSG Secretariat starting October 1st, 2017. Colleagues at the University of British Columbia and the University of Birmingham are busy working on the details of the transition. The position of U21 HS Executive Officer will be advertised very shortly by the University of Birmingham and every effort will be made to fill out the role in the shortest delay possible. The U21 Health Sciences Executive Committee extends many thanks to the University of Birmingham for accepting to take on the hosting of the U21 HSG's Secretariat, and to the University of British Columbia for hosting the Secretariat for the past 6 years.
