The International Doctoral Student Experience and Transferability of Doctoral training

Monday 9th September 2019

The University of Glasgow, College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences is delighted to host the 2019 U21 Health Sciences Group Doctoral Student Forum, in conjunction with the U21 HSG Annual Meeting.

The forum will take place on Monday 9th September 2019 with themes of the international experience and transferability of doctoral training.  The aims are to encourage discussion amongst students, to share experiences and to consider the diversity of career opportunities available following completion. 

We have invited doctoral students from a range of disciplines across the U21 HSG member institutions to present their work in Glasgow at the forum.

09:15               Introduction to Doctoral Student Forum (Prof Alastair Gracie, University of Glasgow)

09:20              Icebreaker

09:30              Masterclass: How do we train Career Ready Graduates - The PGR Toolbox (Dr Helen Wheadon, University of Glasgow)

10:30               Tea and Coffee break

10:45               Student Presentations

11:45               Student Presentations including a snapshot of their international experience  

12:45               Lunch and poster preview

13:30               Masterclass: After the PhD (Professor Campbell, Associate Director, SNBTS &  Dr Sam Curran, SEPA). Facilitated careers/panel session

14:30               Student Presentations                    

15:30               Tea and Coffee break

15:45               Facilitated poster session

17:00               Conclusion and thanks

17:15               Drinks reception and prize giving

18:00              Close

Students will have the opportunity to obtain feedback from an international review panel, attend masterclasses facilitated by experts in this area, and network with students and academics from 18 global leading universities. Students will also be invited to attend the events of the U21 Health Sciences Group Annual Meeting during the week and will need to register to attend both the Doctoral Student Forum and the Annual Meeting.
